Company History

The company was founded in March 1998 by Eric Wehrli and Luka Nerima with the goal of providing the University of Geneva linguistic lab (LATL) with a commercial partner. Based on more than ten years of research, the language technology developped by Eric Wehrli and his research group is state of the art and constitutes the keystone of the LATL.ch products.

Eric Wehrli, Co-Founder & President

 

Eric Wehrli is currently a professor of linguistics and computer science at the Linguistic Department of the University of Geneva, a position he has held since 1988.  He has been actively involved in the research and development of linguistic software components for 15 years.  He is the author of many publications in the areas of syntax, parsing, speech synthesis and machine translation.

 

Luka Nerima, Co-Founder & Executive-board Member

 

Mr. Nerima is an expert in computer science and databases.  In addition, he has been previously involved in a start-up.  Between 1987 and 1990, Mr. Nerima was one of the major shareholders of Le Concept Moderne SA, a Geneva based software company involved in the development of banking expert systems and telematics, videotext and Minitel.

LATL.ch meaning

 

LATL.ch stands for Laboratoire d’Analyse et de Technologie du Langage (Language Analysis and Technology Lab). LATL.ch is the commercial partner of the LATL University lab.
